Introducing Malus Mode: Spice Up Your Creative Sessions
Finding your draws too easy? Looking to push your creative boundaries? Malus Mode is here to challenge you with intentionally difficult constraints designed to unlock new creative pathways.
What is Malus Mode?
Malus Mode is a new feature that adds an extra challenge to every draw. When activated, a red malus card is automatically added to your regular challenges.
These malus cards are intentionally difficult creative constraints designed to push you out of your comfort zone and stimulate your imagination in entirely new ways.
How it works
Enable the "Malus Mode" toggle (the red one near your card selector)
Draw your cards as usual
Watch the red confetti appear - an extra malus card has been added
Rise to the challenge with these additional constraints
A Taste of What's Inside
We've created 20 malus cards to start, with more being added over time based on community feedback. Here are 5 examples to give you an idea:
Left Hand Only
Compose or perform your main parts using only your left hand (or non-dominant hand). Good luck with those chord progressions.
No Sound
The ultimate challenge: compose the next section without listening to it. Turn off your speakers and headphones. Trust your inner ear.
Speed Run
You have exactly 5 minutes to lay down the entire structure of your track. Take a breath, and go.
Reverse Theme
The main theme or melody of your track must be reversed audio. Strange and fascinating.
No FX
Zero effects allowed on any track. Keep it super raw and dry. A true return to basics.
And 15 more malus cards waiting to be discovered...
Why We Added This
Because the best ideas often emerge from constraints.
When you're forced to compose with one hand, without hearing, or in 5 minutes flat, your brain engages different pathways. You discover creative solutions you would never have explored otherwise.
Malus Mode offers:
- Creative boost - Break out of your routine patterns
- Real challenge - Prove your skills under pressure
- Fun factor - Because composing should be enjoyable
- Extra pride - When you succeed with a malus, you know you earned it
